Crepe Myrtles
The crepe myrtle, or lagerstroemia, is a genus of around fifty species of flowering trees. It is native to much of Asia as well as Oceania, and was brought to North America in 1790. It is known for its beautifully-colored flowers, which vary from deep purple to red to white, and every shade in between. The crepe myrtle can range from under one foot in height to over a hundred feet. Though generally cultivated for ornamental purposes, the timber of some cultivars can be used to build bridges, furniture and more.
